Black Cat Photos bio picture
  • Welcome to Black Cat Photos!

I'm Amy Tolbert, a New England native who ventured to San Francisco over 20 years ago. Wow, how time flies when you’re having fun! The Bay Area immediately captured my heart and I've considered this ‘home’ ever since. I have spent these past 20 years pursuing my passions – photography, travel, and people. After studying photography at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, I went on to produce corporate events which I've been happily doing for the past 13 years. During this time I began to shoot many of my corporate client’s events -- around the world! I then started shooting my coworker's and friend's growing families which led me to branch out and start my own business, Black Cat Photos, my own “baby” that I have been building over the last 7 years.

It has been a great balance for me to produce and photograph events and the little ones! I love little kids (and big kids at heart!), as well four-legged family members – pets of all kinds! What I enjoy most is capturing memories for my clients that will last a lifetime.

I hope you enjoy visiting my site. It will be updated with new photography on a regular basis so be sure to visit often! Or better yet, leave me a message on my contact page to let me know a little bit about your family photo or event needs. I look forward to making some photo magic with you!

    ~Amy

She said YES!!!

This was such a highlight  photo session for me in 2012 . I was asked by this wonderful young man to document this huge surprise for his girlfriend ( soon to be fiance). I met him earlier in the day to go over the plan with him and then got myself to Fort Mason hang out in the park while I waited for them to arrive.  He had friends and family fly in for the big event. Both sets of parents were hiding in the bushes while I waited for them to walk into the park. She was completely shocked and surprised. I found myself shaking in anticipation as he got on one knee and cried as she jumped into his arms and said yes… I just kept hitting the shutter button to make sure I got every moment!! Love is alive in SF.

In July of 2011 I signed myself up for the National Association of  Proffessional Child Photographers  photo retreat not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I came home inspired by the beauty of Vail, Colorado and  the many incredible instructors & photographers that participated in this event. I would highly recommend anybody looking to learn more about photographing children to sign up for one of these retreats. You won’t be disappointed. Here is a slideshow of some of the highlights I shot during that week.  Enjoy.
